I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Under the direction of the Director/Senior Manager, ensures operational excellence within the department to provide support to others and quality service in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards.
2. Ensures that quality services are provided in an efficient and effective manner, meeting or exceeding all applicable regulatory licensure and accrediting regulations.
3. Develops, maintains and consistently analyzes performance improvement outcomes to improve departmental services consistent with Hospital and regulatory requirements.
4. Develops and maintains departmental productivity measurements and adjusts resources to meet Hospital, departmental standards and budget obligations.
5. Works collaboratively with attending physicians, house staff and other departments ensure the coordination and continuity of patient care, across the continuum, for defined patient populations.
6. Assists nursing staff in the identification and resolution of patient care problems.
7. Able to conduct a complete and accurate patient history, psychosocial assessment, and physical examination and/or preoperative assessment on assigned patient caseload.
8. Orders and or performs appropriate diagnostic tests, assesses the results of the test and makes appropriate clinical decisions.
9. Assesses patient/family educational needs and provides teaching regarding disease process, treatment and prognosis.
10. Develops and provides, both formal, educational programs for staff and patient/families, based on identified learning needs.
11. Uses principles of adult education in developing, implementing and evaluating educational programs.
12. Develops, revises and evaluates patient/family educational materials/resources.
13. Provides clinical consultation to nursing staff and other members of the health care team in area of clinical nursing specialization.
14. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other health care team members in developing clinical policies, procedures, protocols, and patient care and nursing practice standards.
15. Initiates and facilitates quality improvement and clinical research programs.
16. Actively participates in quality assessment and improvement activities.

Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities:

1. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
2. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
4. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
5. Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
6. Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
7. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Licensed as Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
2. Certification in area of specialty and approved by Board of Registration in Nursing to practice as a Nurse Practitioner.
3. BLS certification required.
4. Master's degree with major in Nursing
Preferred:
1. ACLS certification

Experience/Skills:
Preferred:
1. Demonstrates competency in clinical practice with minimum 3 to 5 years experience
2. Knowledge of patient care resources and ability to identify and utilize them effectively
3. OR equivalent combination of the above

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description.Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
